Motoring, with Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt inspects the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Motorists' Rights

"Where, after all, do motorists’ rights begin? In driveways, byways - often so small that they cannot be seen on any map. Yet they are a microcosm of the driving experience: shopping mall car parks; freeways and autobahns; car washes and garages; auto dealerships and after sales service. Such are the places where every man and woman seeks smooth handling, superior performance, all round visibility and comfortable upholstery. Unless these rights have meaning on our roads, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we could drive all night, but get nowhere."

- Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Motorists’ Rights

Too high and mighty: beware the Jerkosaurus - the family station wagon is an endangered species, thanks to the emergence of the dreaded Jerkosaurus. Is it just a motoring concern, or is it an indicator of a much deeper social malaise? Eleanor pulls no punches. [Feb 2005]   Jerkosaurus: car or beast?
Hey, hippie, leave that 'screen alone! - Eleanor ponders the emergence of the squeegee set at traffic intersections the world over. [Jan 2005]   What part of 'no' don't they understand?
Hues to make you cry - why should modern cars come in such awful colors? Eleanor expands your motoring experience. [Dec 2004]   burnt orange nonsense
